Our life together started July 25, 1998 at friends' cookout.  Max introduced himself to my friends and me. They all laughed, he said "What's so funny? " My friend pointed at me and said, "Her dog's name is Max."  I thought poor guy.  He said to me, "Great name."  I loved his sense of humor and that smile!  So, the rest is history.   We were married February 14, 2000, on the island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.      

The decision to buy a B&B was a mutual "always wanted to do" for both of us. The move to the North Shore of Lake Superior was a life long dream of Max's.  He had been coming to the North Shore his whole life with his family.  He had taken me to Split Rock for a camping trip in 1999.  On one of the rainy days we drove to Grand Marais.   Darling town and the scenery.  I was hooked!  We lived in St. Paul, Minnesota at the time.  Our home was in the Macalester/Groveland neighborhood.  We had just finished updating the house, so it was a hard decision to sell.   But, we really wanted to be on the North Shore.  And we really wanted to build on the lake, but the expense was too much for us.   We were talking on the phone at work one day and found a website with B&Bs for sale all over the USA.  We found 2 for sale in Grand Marais.   We were so excited!  We came up, looked and bought July 3, 2000.    We moved September 1, 2000.     Our life together and B&B are a dream come true. We are celebrating our "8th" year!

We enjoy staying active. We love to run along with other activities: cross country ski, snow shoe, hike, bike, canoe, camp, and taking long walks.  We ran Gary Bjorkland 1/2 marathon in 2004.  We finished!  Max plays tennis and is a member of the tennis association in Cook County.  Both of us enjoy the arts.  Sherri enjoys a variety of artistic expression: stain glass, macramé, watercolor, and drawing.  

Max has played violin professionally for 35 years.  Trained classically, he also plays jazz, blues, rock, or standards.   He is available for events, as a solo, duet, trio, or quartet artist.  He performs at many weddings on the North Shore of Lake Superior.  

Max has 4 children and Sherri has one son.   Our children range in age from 30 to 23.   All live in Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota. Our blended family has expanded.  Max's oldest daughter and her husband are the proud parents of a handsome boy and   expecting a daughter this July 2008. Sherri's son was  married in 2007 to his first love. We gained a wonderful grandson with their marriage. 

Last year our golden, Maxie,  passed away.   We weren't going to get another pet........well, we now have two cats, Macy and Emma.  They are such fun!

We have so much to be thankful for in our lives.

We feel blessed to have found each other. To have this wonderful life and home. We have both always loved to cook and entertain. So, it just seems natural to have alot of guests sharing our home with us.  We hope you'll visit us soon!
